Jacky Pluton is a world-class chef with a zest for passionate living—and a dream to someday score in the 80s. Born on Table 17 of his father’s restaurant in Serrieres, France, Jacky has carried the family tradition of fine cooking to award-winning heights, graduating first in his class from Ecole Hoteliere de la Chaise Dieu. He worked in Michelin-star-rated restaurants in France, Monaco, and Switzerland before coming to the United States in 1986, where he has been Executive Chef at several of this country’s top restaurants.

Jacky, married to Bernie for sixteen years and the father of two, lives in Highland Park, Illinois. His plucky personality and passion for food, wine, culture, travel, motorcycles, and, of course, golf, give The Fairway Gourmet a generous blend of lifestyle, wit, exuberance, and fun.

In his own words, "I first started playing golf in 1987 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. My roommate bought me a set of clubs for $75. We went out to play and it took me 6 hours to play 18 holes – and think I shot a 250. But I was hooked. When I lived in Boca Raton, I got so good my handicap was down to 17. I’m now up to a 25 because I have less time out on the green. I love golf because of the personal challenge and the fact that I lose myself in the game and the gorgeous scenery.

And I love cookbooks – I really love them. I have a collection of more than 700 cookbooks from cuisines around the globe. My wife, Berny actually has to drag me out of bookstores.

I also enjoy riding my motorcycle. I started riding in Europe because it was the most practical and affordable way to get around. On a beginning chef’s salary, I couldn’t afford a car or a driver’s license, which are really expensive in Europe. The practical side of riding has given way to the enjoyment of being outdoors. I especially love to ride along beautiful Lake Shore Drive in the summer on my way to the restaurant. "
